Aloe Vera Juice Benefits - Weight Loss

The aloe vera plant can be grown indoors as well as outdoors. Aloe vera extract has been used as a soothing balm for burns and to heal cuts and wounds. However, there are very few people, who are aware of the fact, that it can also be used to felicitate weight loss. Before we turn towards aloe vera juice for weight loss, let's get to know more about the medicinal properties of this wonder plant.

Health Benefits of Aloe Vera

Aloe vera juice is an excellent natural nutritional supplement, which contains as many as twenty amino acids, twenty minerals and about twelve vitamins. Read on to find out the other health benefits of aloe vera.
Improved blood circulation
Regulation of blood pressure
Strengthens the immune system and defends the body against bacterial and viral attack
Promotes healing of bones, joints and internal tissue damage
Heals ulcers
Eliminates constipation
Regulates the level of sugar in the blood
Helps in dilating the capillaries and supports cell growth, which in turn helps in improving circulation

To gain the benefits of the medicinal uses of aloe vera, you will have to consume two to four ounces of aloe vera juice a day. If consumed daily it also aids in digestion, detoxifying the body and cleansing the colon.

Aloe Vera Juice and Weight Loss

We have just read about aloe vera juice benefits, now let's look into how does aloe vera juice aid in weight loss. That aloe vera assists in weight loss was relatively an unknown fact. Let's understand how does aloe vera help in weight loss. It stimulates the metabolic rate, due to which more energy is consumed. This helps in stabilizing and reducing the body mass index. The energy which is burned is taken from the fats and carbohydrates stored in the body. It is said that drinking aloe vera juice through the week is equivalent to multiple workouts done through the week.

Apart from stimulating your metabolic rate, the other reason why aloe vera juice aids in weight loss is that, it contains high amounts of the protein, collagen. The body has to spend extra energy to assimilate the collagen protein in the body. The expenditure of all that extra energy helps in weight loss, at the same time due to the collagen protein, it also promotes muscle development.

Aloe vera juice is also a laxative, due to which food is forced out of the colon faster. Hence, less energy is absorbed from the food. As there are so many benefits of aloe vera it is not astonishing that it is called 'the dietary plant' and also the 'harmony remedy'.

Along with the aloe vera juice weight loss, to achieve greater benefits I would suggest you have a well chalked out exercise and weight loss diet program as well. A minimum of 30 minutes exercise for 3 to 5 days a week is recommended. You should adopt a low fat, low sugar and low calorie diet to keep the pounds at bay. At the same time increase the amount of fiber consumption, and say no to fast food.

Now comes the question, what is the right quantity of aloe vera, that should be consumed. Since aloe vera juice has a bitter taste, it is recommended, that it be mixed with vegetable and fruit juice, which will make it palatable. However, if you want, you can also choose to have the juice plain on its own as well. In the initial days, one can choose to have about two ounces of aloe juice combined with vegetable or fruit juice. Gradually over a period of time, the quantity of the aloe juice can be increased to eight ounces.

There are not too many known side effects of aloe vera juice, if the juice is taken in moderation. It is advisable to seek advice from your health care professional, if a person has colitis, appendicitis, intestinal problems or Crohn's disease. Even menstruating women should have a word with their health care professional, if they want to start consuming aloe vera juice for weight loss. At the same time, if you are on medication, then talk to your physician, as the medicine will not work as expected, as the result of the side effect of aloe vera juice. A pregnant woman should not consume aloe vera juice without medical advice.

U.S. Marine Hits $2.9 Million Jackpot and Calls It Karma

Marine Cpl. Alexander Degenhardt volunteered to become a bone marrow donor for an anonymous patient because that’s just the kind of guy he is. The 26 year old who, just a few days after learning he’d been accepted into the bone marrow donor program, hit a $2.9 million jackpot while playing the progressive slots in Las Vegas.

The young Marine and some of his buddies had come to Las Vegas from Washington D.C. where they are stationed to attend a week long training program at Nelles Air Force Base. With some time on his hands before his return flight would depart, Degenhardt decided to play the penny slots at the Bellagio. The machine accepts bets between 40 cents and $2. Just ten minutes after he started, Degenhardt hit the jackpot, literally.

Thinking he would lose $100 quickly, he was instead overwhelmed by his turn of fortune. When asked, if in light of his win, he would still go through the bone marrow donation, given the amount of pain it’s said to cause, Degenhardt responded that a little pain was worth saving someone’s life. He feels the jackpot was good karma for taking part in the donor program.
He still needs to undergo about six months of extensive testing but afterwards, plans to continue his military career with the Marines.

The family-oriented young man plans to use the first disbursement – he will get about $100,000 each year for 20 years – to help his sister who is expecting a child and to help his mom catch up on her bills.

How did Degenhardt indulge after winning the jackpot? He treated himself to some clothing at the same thrift store he always shops at. He doesn’t intend to replace his car just yet either, even though it has more than 250,000 miles on it. The thrift-conscious soldier says there no sense wasting money and that he’ll keep driving his vehicle until he no longer can.

As for the jackpot, it is the second highest payout for Bally, the company who makes the Bally Technologies’ Money Vault machine and oversees the payouts.

The science of love

When do you know if you fancy someone? What does love do to your brain chemicals, and is falling in love just nature's way to keep our species alive?

We call it love. It feels like love. But the most exhilarating of all human emotions is probably nature’s beautiful way of keeping the human species alive and reproducing.

With an irresistible cocktail of chemicals, our brain entices us to fall in love. We believe we’re choosing a partner. But we may merely be the happy victims of nature’s lovely plan.

It’s not what you say...

Psychologists have shown it takes between 90 seconds and 4 minutes to decide if you fancy someone.

Research has shown this has little to do with what is said, rather

55% is through body language

38% is the tone and speed of their voice

Only 7% is through what they say

The 3 stages of love

Helen Fisher of Rutgers University in the States has proposed 3 stages of love – lust, attraction and attachment. Each stage might be driven by different hormones and chemicals.

Stage 1: Lust

This is the first stage of love and is driven by the sex hormones testosterone and oestrogen – in both men and women.

Stage 2: Attraction

This is the amazing time when you are truly love-struck and can think of little else. Scientists think that three main neurotransmitters are involved in this stage; adrenaline, dopamine and serotonin.

Adrenaline

The initial stages of falling for someone activates your stress response, increasing your blood levels of adrenalin and cortisol. This has the charming effect that when you unexpectedly bump into your new love, you start to sweat, your heart races and your mouth goes dry.

Dopamine

Helen Fisher asked newly ‘love struck’ couples to have their brains examined and discovered they have high levels of the neurotransmitter dopamine. This chemical stimulates ‘desire and reward’ by triggering an intense rush of pleasure. It has the same effect on the brain as taking cocaine!

Fisher suggests “couples often show the signs of surging dopamine: increased energy, less need for sleep or food, focused attention and exquisite delight in smallest details of this novel relationship” .

Serotonin

And finally, serotonin. One of love's most important chemicals that may explain why when you’re falling in love, your new lover keeps popping into your thoughts.

Does love change the way you think?
A landmark experiment in Pisa, Italy showed that early love (the attraction phase) really changes the way you think.

Dr Donatella Marazziti, a psychiatrist at the University of Pisa advertised for twenty couples who'd been madly in love for less than six months. She wanted to see if the brain mechanisms that cause you to constantly think about your lover, were related to the brain mechanisms of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.

By analysing blood samples from the lovers, Dr Marazitti discovered that serotonin levels of new lovers were equivalent to the low serotonin levels of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder patients.

Love needs to be blind

Newly smitten lovers often idealise their partner, magnifying their virtues and explaining away their flaws says Ellen Berscheid, a leading researcher on the psychology of love.

New couples also exalt the relationship itself. “It's very common to think they have a relationship that's closer and more special than anyone else's”. Psychologists think we need this rose-tinted view. It makes us want to stay together to enter the next stage of love – attachment.

Stage 3: Attachment

Attachment is the bond that keeps couples together long enough for them to have and raise children. Scientists think there might be two major hormones involved in this feeling of attachment; oxytocin and vasopressin.

Oxytocin - The cuddle hormone

Oxytocin is a powerful hormone released by men and women during orgasm.

It probably deepens the feelings of attachment and makes couples feel much closer to one another after they have had sex. The theory goes that the more sex a couple has, the deeper their bond becomes.
Oxytocin also seems to help cement the strong bond between mum and baby and is released during childbirth. It is also responsible for a mum’s breast automatically releasing milk at the mere sight or sound of her young baby.

Diane Witt, assistant professor of psychology from New York has showed that if you block the natural release of oxytocin in sheep and rats, they reject their own young.

Conversely, injecting oxytocin into female rats who’ve never had sex, caused them to fawn over another female’s young, nuzzling the pups and protecting them as if they were their own.

Vasopressin
Vasopressin is another important hormone in the long-term commitment stage and is released after sex.

Vasopressin (also called anti-diuretic hormone) works with your kidneys to control thirst. Its potential role in long-term relationships was discovered when scientists looked at the prairie vole.

Prairie voles indulge in far more sex than is strictly necessary for the purposes of reproduction. They also – like humans - form fairly stable pair-bonds.

When male prairie voles were given a drug that suppresses the effect of vasopressin, the bond with their partner deteriorated immediately as they lost their devotion and failed to protect their partner from new suitors.

And finally … how to fall in love

Find a complete stranger.

Reveal to each other intimate details about your lives for half an hour.

Then, stare deeply into each other’s eyes without talking for four minutes.

York psychologist, Professor Arthur Arun, has been studying why people fall in love.

He asked his subjects to carry out the above 3 steps and found that many of his couples felt deeply attracted after the 34 minute experiment. Two of his subjects later got married.

Ten Secrets Apple Doesn't Want You to Know

Apple goes to great lengths to keep its customers happy. But remember, Apple is also a corporation whose ultimate goal is to earn a profit. As a consumer it’s your job to be knowledgeable about the products you buy and how to get the services you deserve. Whether the iPhone 4S is your first Apple product, or you’re an Apple groupie, it’s up to you to take the initiative to get the most out of your Mac. You can start by arming yourself with the following information.

1. Apple makes it too easy to buy more than you need.

The phrase “eyes bigger than one’s stomach” comes to mind here. It can be awfully tempting to pay a little extra for that faster processor, more RAM, or hard drive space, but most buyers will be well served to go for an entry-level or mid-range model and upgrade the RAM or hard drive at a later date. Take the time to evaluate your needs, read some reviews, and decide from there. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, and don’t let yourself be sold on something you don’t need.

2. Apple has a friendly return policy.

Apple has a very pro-consumer return policy, which gives you 14-days to return your Mac for any reason – or for no reason (albeit there are some restrictions). Moreover, Apple no longer assesses a re-stocking fee on returns. So if you find yourself unhappy with your new Mac, don’t hesitate to return it for a full refund. If you find yourself with a Mac that’s defective from the start and you’re still within Apple’s 14-day return period, take it in and ask for a complete replacement.

3. You don’t need to buy AppleCare until the end of your first year of ownership.

AppleCare is the optional support, service, and repair plan that you may purchase in addition to your Mac’s One-Year Limited Warranty. Although AppleCare has other benefits, the most important one is that it essentially extends your Mac’s One-Year Limited Warranty by one or two years (depending on the type of Mac you are purchasing AppleCare for). AppleCare (not to be confused with AppleCare+) may be purchased at any point during the first year of your Mac’s life and, therefore, it’s not necessary to purchase it at the same time as your Mac. If something happens to your Mac that would otherwise void its One-Year Limited Warranty (say you drop your new iPhone 4S in the pool), then AppleCare will be also be voided.

4. Apple sells refurbished products directly, which will save you money without sacrificing quality or service.

You can purchase refurbished Macs direct from Apple. Refurbished Macs come with the same One-Year Limited Warranty you get with the new models, and just like those models are eligible for AppleCare. Refurbished models are not “used” or “defective.” Rather, they are usually open-box returns that had nothing wrong with them in the first place. All refurbished Macs are thoroughly tested before they are resold as refurbished models. If something goes wrong with your refurbished Mac you will still enjoy the same degree of service and support as if you had purchased a brand-new, more expensive, model.

5. You can still take advantage of Apple’s customer service and AppleCare if you buy a used Mac.

You don’t have to buy a Mac directly from Apple in order to benefit from Apple’s great customer service. If you purchase a used Mac that is less than one year old, it will still be fully covered by Apple’s One-Year Limited Warranty and will be eligible for AppleCare provided its warranty or AppleCare has not otherwise been voided. Sure, eBay and Craigslist have their own caveats, but many people have found great success buying their Macs through places such as these. If you buy a used Mac that is more than one-year old you should check to see if its original owner had purchased AppleCare. If the owner had purchased AppleCare you can arrange to have the plan transferred to you.

6. Sometimes Apple products have defects.

Did you cause those hairline fractures on your white plastic MacBook or is your MacBook actually defective? Apple makes phenomenal products, but they’re not immune from the same design and manufacturing defects that plague the rest of the manufacturing world. You paid a lot for your Mac and there’s no reason why you should have to settle for a defective one. The best way to spot defects is to routinely look over your Mac for changes in its physical appearance or behavior. If you notice something that doesn’t seem right, research the symptoms online. If other people are reporting symptoms similar to what you are seeing, then there’s a good chance that you may have spotted a defect. When you spot a legitimate defect, don’t be afraid to bring it to Apple’s attention.

7. You should treat both new and repeat defects with zero tolerance.

In the event that you discover an issue that you believe to be a defect, treat it with zero tolerance. A hairline fracture on your MacBook or iPhone may seem trivial to you today, but it won’t be so trivial when the cracks start to spread after your Mac’s One-Year Limited Warranty or AppleCare expire. Moreover, some defects may re-appear on your repaired Mac or even a replacement model. If the same defect occurs again, then having a previously documented repair attempt might be invaluable.

8. You should always document your interactions with Apple representatives.

People say all sorts of things – especially when they are customer service representatives – so it’s critical that you document all of your interactions while you are seeking to address any issue. If you visit an Apple Store in-person, be sure to ask for a card from any Apple Genius you speak with and save those Genius Bar Work Authorization & Service Confirmation forms. If you contact Apple over the phone, be sure to ask for the full name of the representative you speak with and keep notes detailing the time and date of the discussion as well as what was discussed. If your issue doesn’t get resolved these notes will come in handy later on.

9. You should conduct a thorough physical inspection of your Mac before its One-Year Limited Warranty or AppleCare expire.

Once you have bought your new Mac, be sure to mark your calendar to remind you before your Mac’s One-Year Limited Warranty or AppleCare expire. (Hopefully you remembered to save the dates.) Take an hour or two to sit down and examine your Mac for defects at least ten days before that happens. What could be wrong? Cracked plastic, unusual screen discoloration, an unacceptably high number of dead pixels, swelling batteries – the list goes on. There are all sorts of ailments for which Apple will gladly repair or replace your Mac. But this is your last chance to get it repaired or replaced for free — so why not?

10. If you are a savvy consumer you will get the most from your Apple products.

To get the most out of your Apple products you need to be an informed consumer. The Internet has everything you need, provided you are proactive and you know how to do your research. The blog, CultofMac.com or other similar Mac-oriented websites are excellent resources. For more guidance on being a savvy Mac owner, check out my new book Buying and Owning a Mac: Secrets Apple Doesn’t Want You to Know, which contains much more helpful information regarding buying and owning Apple products.

Bangladeshi child & HIV-AIDS

Child prostitution is widespread and a serious problem. The majority of Bangladeshi prostituted children are based in brothels, with a smaller number of children exploited in hotel rooms, parks, railway and bus stations and rented flats.

The UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) estimated in 2004 that there were 10,000 underage girls used in commercial sexual exploitation in the country, but other estimates placed the figure as high as 29,000.

Many girls involved in child labour, such as working in factories and as domestic workers are raped or sexually exploited; these girls are highly stigmatised and many of them flee to escape such abuse, but often they find that survival sex is the only option open to them—once involved with prostitution they become even more marginalized.

More than 20,000 children are born and live in the 18 registered red-light areas of Bangladesh. Boys tend to become pimps once they grow up and girls continue in their mothers’ profession. Most of these girls enter the profession before the age of 12.

Disabled children who live in institutions and children displaced as a result of natural disasters such as floods are highly susceptible to commercial sexual exploitation.

Girls are often sold by their families to brothels for a period of two to three years of bonded sex work. Visits to the brothels of Faridpur and Tangail in 2010 revealed that most sex workers there take or are made to take the steroid drug dexamethason to gain weight and to look better.

The authorities generally ignore the minimum age of 18, often circumvented by false statements of age, for legal female prostitution; the government rarely prosecutes procurers of minors.

BSF's brutality on Bangladeshi civilians

I was almost throwing up watching the YouTube video showing the inhuman and barbaric torture on a young Bangladeshi civilian by the BSF on India-Bangladesh border last month. This reminded me of the still photos of the torture on the detainees at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq by some members of the American forces. What happened there was most inhuman that is beyond any condemnation. But that happened within the four walls of a prison. What the BSF video showed harks back to Nazi-style torture under the open sky on the India-Bangladesh border in broad daylight. Those who took part in the beastly act looked like demons. Regular killing, repression and torture of the civilians by the Indian forces in Kashmir and elsewhere in India are well documented and, so are the incidents on the Bangladesh border. Shouldn't the Indian government think seriously of psychological counselling of their security forces? The video clearly showed that the BSF personnel were taking immense pleasure in torturing and videotaping the stripped Bangladeshi national. That's undoubtedly the sign of sick minds! I am sure, any Indian worth the salt with little self-respect and human honour and dignity will feel ashamed as an Indian for so badly damaging the image of their country by such acts of their security forces, and, that too, in this instance, with the citizens of a friendly neighbour.

Hard to believe- Lakhshmi

Lakshmi's body was joined with the parasitical twin attached at her pelvis until doctors successfully removed it...

Baby born with two faces

An Indian baby born with two faces is doing well one month after her birth, doctors have said.

Lali was born with two noses, two pairs of lips and two pairs of eyes - but only two ears.

And while she may seem like an oddity to some, her proud parents think she is simply a God reincarnated.

The baby girl was born in the rural Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh, 50km north east of New Delhi.

Her parents, Vinod and Susham Singh from a village called Saini, said their little girl was "a gift from God".

Excited villagers claim she is the reincarnation of the Indian God Ganesha and celebrated her arrival with clapping, cheering and offerings of gifts and money.

During the hortal political activist fighting with police and the journalists are taking photo in this horrible situation....

Injustice and Violence against Women

Various organizations and individuals have been fighting for decades to ensure justice for women and children in Bangladesh. But progress has been nominal; violence continues quite notably.
Innocent souls continue crying for justice. From January to March 2009, 73 women and children were the victims of rape or attempted rape with 29 of them were victims of gang-raped; 13 were between ages 7 and 12. In May alone, 33 women and girls were the victims of rape. Among them, 16 were adult women and 17 children under the age of 16. Out of the 16 women, 5 were victims of gang-rape and three were killed after being raped. Out of the 17 girls, five were victims of gang-rape and two were killed following rape.
Between January and March 2009, six serious acts of violence against women were instigated by fatwas by Islamic clerics. I discussed the issue with the law minister, repeatedly insisting that there is a necessity for specific law to suppress fatwa, illegal in Bangladeshi law, as well as a law to identify the paternity of a child in a case, it is disputed. He rejected the necessity of introducing a specific law for either instance.
Dowry is another social disease in Bangladesh. From January to March 2009, 44 women faced dowry-related violence; among these women, 23 died.
Bangladesh has one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the world: 440 per 100,000 live births, according to UNICEF, and more than 20,000 women in Bangladesh die annually from complications related to pregnancy and childbirth.
In Bangladesh, women do their best to fulfill their duties and take care of all their men's needs; yet, from January to March 2009 alone, 45 women were abused by their husbands or their husbands’ relatives. Very recently, a woman, Parul Akter, who was seven months pregnant, was killed and her body thrown in a river; her two other children are still missing. This is the reality that many women in Bangladesh face.
We can name thousands of ways that women and children are facing oppression and repression in Bangladesh. Confucius said, “We should feel sorrow, but not sink under its oppression. For almost two decades, Prime Ministers in Bangladesh have been women. The number of people, who oppose women’s empowerment and oppress woman and children, are larger than the number oppressed or suppressed.
Women’s empowerment alone will not solve the problem; we need to treat women as human beings first, rather than simply as women. We need to break the silence and stand up against religious and cultural traditions that encourage the repression of, and violence against, women and children. Every civilized nation should dream that woman will be treated as equal human beings; that women will really be empowered; and as the main nurturer of the human race, they will lead the nation toward a more humane society.
The whole system in Bangladesh is male-dominated, inspired by religions that have a historical tradition of suppressing woman. We need to deal with these oppressors first. Many law and wonderful steps had taken to bring an end to the suppression and oppression of woman and children, but, unfortunately, none of them have succeeded.
Many police officers abuse their wives. Sometimes, such police officers are engaged in the investigation of cases of violence against a woman. Would the woman get justice from a police officer, guilty of the same crime? The police officer should be brought to trial before anything else. There are cases where, after being raped, the woman gets raped again in the police station by officers, when she comes to make lodge complaints.
More than anything, the religion of Islam, the majority-religion in Bangladesh, which has a historical and cultural tradition of oppressing women, is obviously a factor that encourages violence against women. While laws can be enacted, but when religion inspires adherents through heaven and hell; in this light, how will jail or capital punishment bring any significant change?
The Prophet Mohammed said, “I was standing at the edge of the fire (hell) and the majority of the people going in were women.” When the Quran and the Prophet Mohammed are the guide to the majority of Bangladeshi people, and the Quran (4:34) sanctions men to beat their wives, if she doesn't obey him, how will man-made law prevent the beating of women? Laws and conventions, which contradict the holy sayings of the Prophet and Allah, will surely fail to ensure rights and justice to women.
When will the likes of Parul, Rahima, Rebeka, Shima—was raped in front of her father—and Mili Rani, a minority Hindu girl, who was raped and later committed suicide, will get justice, when will they be spared of violence. All this happens in our society of the 21st-century civilized world, all before our very eyes.
We need to break silence and step up a campaign for humanity and justice.
